About this coffee
Brazilian coffee beans from an authentic family business
These Brazilian coffee beans grow on Fazenda Fronteiras in Socorro, São Paulo. Ellen Fontana runs this 100-hectare estate. She is the fifth generation coffee grower in her family. Her goal is to produce sustainable coffee of top quality.
Only 23 of the 100 hectares are used for coffee plantations. The rest grows bananas, avocados, and eucalyptus. This creates a healthy mix of crops, plants, and animals. Additionally, 20 hectares are protected forest. The remaining area is wild land, which Ellen is slowly planting with trees.
Sustainable coffee cultivation with a positive impact
Together with her neighbors and some organizations, Ellen started a restoration project. The goal is to regrow forests and connect them. She planted 1,700 native trees for this. She also maintains a forest of around 70,000 trees. She also protects the river that flows through the estate.
Ellen helps farmers in the region with additional income, for example, from honey. This contributes to a larger movement.
On Fazenda Fronteiras, Ellen uses only organic fertilizer from the estate itself. For example, from her own cows, banana peels, and avocado peels. She also significantly reduced water consumption. She completely avoids pesticides.
From coffee cherry to bean: the natural process
The team harvests the coffee cherries semi-automatically. The berries are then dried in the sun, fruit and all. This is called the natural process and gives the coffee extra sweetness. Afterward, the harvest is transported to Siete Señoras, where the bean is separated from the cherry. Finally, the coffee returns to Fazenda Fronteiras for grading and packaging.
Taste profile: chocolate, vanilla, and red berries
This coffee has a full-bodied, rich flavor. You can taste chocolate and vanilla, with a fresh touch of red berries. The SCA score of 85.5 points confirms its quality.
The beans are versatile. For espresso, you get a sweet, chocolate-like shot. With filter or V60, the fruit notes become more prominent. They also work well in a French press.
